SO WHAT EXACTLY IS A VIRTUAL ASSISTANT ANYWAY?
A Virtual Assistant (VA) is someone who offers freelance services to entrepreneurs and organizations.
A VA is not an employee! You are a business owner, you provide a professional service.
You get paid either hourly, by retainer or by project – I will teach you the best options!
There are thousands of services you can offer. I’ve broken them down in Four different Categories:

Administration – things like calendar management, record keeping, product listing etc

Technical – things like backend website support, building systems

Creative – Graphic Design, Blog writing, copywriting etc

Sales and Marketing – Social media management, digital marketing, Pinterest management etc

You make your own hours, set your own fees, set your own fee structure. You are the boss.
You choose who you want to work with.
When you apply for an opportunity, you don’t offer a CV. Instead, you have a well-designed portfolio that shows all your work and exactly how you can help your client.
You don’t go for an “interview” your client comes to you for a “discovery call” and you are in control the whole time.
See the difference? You are an Asset, not an Expense!
If you set yourself up as an expert and solve a problem, people WILL pay you for your service!

In South Africa, the average salary of a virtual assistant is R 8599. – dont let this discourage you!!! These people work for SA companies and this is not what I recommend. I will teach you to find clients in the US, UK and other countries so can earn in Euro’s and Dollars!! Much much better!
The question you ask now is probably “but isn’t the market over-saturated? Yes and no. Ha let me explain.
So the most popular country to hire VA’s from are the Philipines, and the main reason is that they are cheap. They charge $2 per hour and they flood the market.
And we can’t compete with that! I will definitely not work for $2 or $5 or even $5 per hour!! You shouldn’t either!
So yes the market is oversaturated if you want to offer basic services.
There is a way around it – and I talk more about it in a post I will link here later.
But in short, its not over saturated - if you stand out from the crowd, solve a problem, and become an EXPERT in what your clients struggle with, I can show you how to do it!

You need to NICHE down!
Being A VA is not for everyone! I’ve put together a checklist as a self-assessment tool so you can make sure you have what it takes to take this on, to help you figure out if you have the right general soft skills to succeed in the International VA world.
You can use this checklist as a kickoff point to decide if you want to start on this journey. If there are some areas that you can’t check off, make a note, and see if you can improve on it. There is always room for improvement. Ask someone who knows you well, to help you, so you can be honest about your personality!
That said, not everyone can be a successful VA. You need tenacity and positive energy and you need to be able to take criticism and use it to your advantage. You need to be able to figure things out for yourself, in a world where being “spoon-fed” is the norm, this is a very rare skill.
There are also some core personality traits you need to possess. Like enthusiasm and always being up for a challenge. Being a VA is NOT for the faint of heart.
You can use the checklist as a Roadmap for your journey. Every single trait and skill, even if it is classified as a “personality trait” can be learned and developed!
